I also have a brand new JLU Sahara 2021 - issues with my backup camera guidelines coming and going. What is the fix? I don't want to spend my time at a dealership with my brand new vehicle.

New to the forum. Hi all!!

2021 JL with the 8.7 system. Six weeks old. Same issue since day one. Brought it to the dealer. They said that it needed a new radio. From what I'm reading, that's not the fix. I'll likely be messaging the @JeepCares team to assist.

Only a few times, the radio has shut down when on Android Auto. Sometimes, front speakers go out, and I have to reconnect the phone. Backup lines are missing ~90% of the time. Haven't tried the disconnect / reconnect method. I suppose I'll do so, and report back.

//Edit: I can't seem to figure out how to DM @JeepCares . Maybe it's an anti-spam feature - blocking new accounts from DMing?

I sent an email and called them. I did speak with a rep as well as received an email. They recommended to take my Jeep in. I don't want to spend my time at the dealer. I want to know if there is a fix or not?? I haven't experienced any radio issues just backup camera guidelines.

Reconnected camera. As of now, only after a few startups, it seems to fix the issue.

As it wasn't mentioned before, here's the method: (21 Wrangler JL Rubicon, 8.7. Not sure how much the trim package matters for this specific fix)

  • Vehicle off
  • Open tailgate (is that what it's called on a Jeep? Anyway...)
  • Remove panel. Just get a good grip on it and pull slowly and firmly.
  • Locate the two wiring groups on the top. One appears to be some sort of AV cable (black wire, white connector, top cable). Disconnect that by pressing the small tab on the clip.
  • Second harness down is a multi-wire harness. Pull the red tab to disengage the "locking" clip-thingy (colorblind, so if it's not red, my bad). Don't force it. You may need a very small tool to pry up the other side of the clip. Very little pressure is needed if you manipulate that little piece.
  • I don't know if this is necessary, but close the tailgate, turn the Jeep on, engage reverse. Something like "Camera not Operational" message will appear. Turn Jeep to "Off", get out, and wait for the dash to dim. (There's like a 1-3 minute timer where it is still "on". Wait it out).
  • Reconnect in reverse order. Black clip, then White clip.
  • Turn on. Reverse. Enjoy lines.
//Edit: Day 2 - Lines gone again. Not a fix.

So another follow up. My local jeep shop will not look at it any more and said wait for an update (Yakima Valley Jeep). So I called where I bought it from 40 minutes away (Speck Jeep) the service agent made an appointment for 5/13/21 and they are giving me a loaner and gonna keep the Jeep for two days to diagnose the problem. They said it could be one of 4 things the camera, wiring harness, radio or some module. They said they would try to figure it out. I will keep everyone posted on the results. I also messaged jeep cares and they are going to assign a specialist to help me with the dealer. I'm hopeful at this point but if it is truly a software problem than we are at the mercy of FCA.

Second time at the dealer and they reconfigured the camera/infotainment console. Checked for loose connections. tested it over and over again with the lines appearing and sent it back to me. Sure enough two days later, it stopped working! Getting ready to call them yet again. Very unhappy! Brand new Rubicon and they can't find the problem..

I just got my New Jeep 2 days ago and I noticed the lines have been disappearing on and off. Do I have to take it back the dealership already? 😢

I have the exact same issue and noticed this the second day I had it. 2021 Sahara 4xE. It is currently at the dealer for this issue. Will report back when they tell me they can’t figure out! Haha!

Noticed this issue on my mom’s brand new 2021 Sahara. Never had an issue on mine with the 7” screen.

This didn’t work. I have no option to start a conversation with them (jeepcares account). Every other user on this forum has the message option but jeepcares account does not. Probably because they don’t care! 🤣
