I'm about to pull the trigger on new tires for my daily driver JK and am definitely going with AT KO2s, but these two sizes are leaving me with questions.

On the BFG site, this is how they spec out:

Code:
Size Load Speed Rim Width Section Width Diameter Revs/mile Weight
315/70R17 E S 8"-11" 12.72" @ 9.5" 34.4 604 62.4 lbs
35x12.5R17 E R 8.5"-11" 12.5" @ 10" 34.5 602 66.5 lbs
So based on this stuff, it looks like the 315's are a little wider and shorter than the 35's, but by literally tenths of an inch. The 315's just came to market, and I don't know why they would make another tire in essentially the same (metric equiv.) size as an existing one, but they did.

Other differences show the approved rim width of the 315's is slightly smaller (8" vs 8.5"), which doesn't make sense if it's even a slightly wider tire. The speed rating is slightly different, the weight is 4 lbs different, yet they are both 10 ply load E tires... and of course prices differ by about $20 a tire. Something doesn't add up to me... am I missing something obvious?

Could BFGs dimensions be wrong? Anyone out there work at a tire shop and have access to both sized AT KO2 tires and can physically line them up and see if they're practically the same size, or find out for sure if one is significantly taller or wider than the other?
