Hey guys, I was only able to find one other thread on this and no one posted anything about it.
I recently bought a 97 Sport and the PO thought the compressor was froze up due to a sound he was hearing when he tried to run the AC. After I got it and took a look around I realized the compressor was fine and the sound he was hearing was just it cycling on and off every few seconds because it was low on freon. I dumped some in there and the AC started working fine (good thing for me, I thought that was going to be an expensive fix). Now when it's running and I crank it up or hit a bump this strange black material comes flying out of the vents and I'm always convinced that I'm being covered in spiders haha

It's black and almost looks like a mesh jersey material or dried out coral. I'll try to post a picture, I didn't clean all of it out. I was just curious if perhaps it was some piece of plastic or something that got deteriorated after not running the AC for several years or some form of mold or something. Any ideas?

Thanks!

That's the lining in the A/C condensate drain. Think of it as a coarse sponge that sits in the drain tray, intended to avoid water sloshing out. Not having it may mean an occasional drip of cold water onto your carpet or the passenger's foot when turning a sharp corner. Honestly I would clean up the pieces and not worry.

That reminds me, mines been spitting this out recently as well, I just keep forgetting to remove the center vents and clean it out!

As stated its for the drain, nothing real worrisome so I'd just clean it as it blows out and call it a day

Okay thanks very much! That must be what it is because I also was having the water buildup on the passenger floorboard so I installed about a foot of 5/8" vinyl tubing onto the condensate drain.
Appreciate the help
