My 2018 Sahara is now 2 months old and has 2,800 miles: it has a few minor recurring issues:

  1. The blind spot sensors lock out whenever the Jeep goes off-road, either in 4WD-Hi, 4WD-Lo or Selec-Trac "Auto."
    • The indicators inside the side mirrors stay on and a warning on the dashboard reads "BSM Temporary Unavailable."
    • It's happened before I installed the Rugged Ridge taillight guards, and again yesterday when I hit a trail --with the taillight guards on. It hasn't done it when I engage Selec-Trac Auto on pavement, though; only off-road.
    • Once on pavement, with 2WD engaged, the system goes back to normal after I restart.
  2. The backup camera doesn’t come on sporadically. So far it’s failed to work twice.
  3. This is more an annoyance than a malfunction - the stupid Travel Link Weather Alerts come on constantly, even for storm warnings affecting counties hundreds of miles away. It is annoying enough that the warning blocks off the entire screen, but it won’t go away until you hit “OK,” and there’s no way to turn the damn thing off.

Besides these issues, the Jeep drives great. I am loving the Selec-Trac and the Cold Weather Group in particular. But I’m just not very hopeful the electronics will last past the warranty period. My faith on the Fiat electronics was never very good to start with. And so far, the few issues I’m having are all coming from the electronics.

Has anyone experiencing a similar issue with the BSM? Any help is appreciated.

Hey Aldo,

My blind spot monitoring lights came on twice and wouldn’t go off while I was on the trails in Moab, had to turn the Jeep off to reset it. It’s never happened on road, only off-road so far.

Thank you for sharing.

That is weird, isn’t it? How can the BSM detect when the Jeep is “off road” to go on hiatus? The shaking? The proximity to too many trees/rocks...?

Thank you for reaching out, Alex.

I will bring it up when I come in for my first service. Although I doubt the dealer will be able to “replicate” given that it only happens off-road.

But I’ll send you a note before hand. I’ll need all the positive vibes I can get.

I had the back up camera issue ... I was surprised (at myself) at how much I had grown accustomed to using it. When it failed it was a surprise. I always use the mirrors too but....

Now If I can just get over the dual battery and ESS realities :)

Hey RubiconSS,

I installed a SmartStopStart unit in my Jeep. It works great. I set the switch to off and that’s it. It remembers its setting and doesn’t reset at start up. No ESS issue at all now. Well worth it to eliminate the aggravation.

That was the first mod I did on my new JLUR. Love it!
