A couple of months again I was hit on my driver side just before the door by someone who blew threw a red light hit me and ran. Unfortunately I don't have full coverage to have this all fixed up by my insurance. :banghead: No frame damage just cosmetic that has my door now tilted up some. I had no problem riding with it during the summer (cause I just kept the doors off) but now that winter is coming and I have my hardtop on and the noise from the misaligned door is driving me nuts! I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on what I should do to repair/replace/etc. Thanks.

I would have filed a claim with my insurance right after it happened, and let them pay for it. My insurance company doesn't raise rates for un-insured motorist/ hit and run claims.

I had liability only and without the driver information my insurance said I was SOL.:banghead:

well if all you want is to fix the noise you could put some foam weatherstripping in the crack. if you want to align the door but cant fix the dent you could "persuade" the lower hinge with a good size hammer. or you can fix the body damage. I wouldn't know how too myself im not a body guy.

I very tempted to persuade the area around the lower hinge but like yourself I'm not a body guy myself. I'll keep the foam in mind but I think the gaps too big.

put multiple layers. it might look terrible but it'll quiet down the noise. I pounded my hinges on my yj when I had it and changed hinges. it worked but messed up the paint. I didn't care cuz it was already trashed. if you love your paint the hammer is a bad idea.

That's way too nice of a jeep to only have liability coverage IMO. Do you have a bad driving record or something?

The door isn't going to seal correctly no matter what you do unless the damage is repaired. You could try a set of full soft doors but they're around $400 new. Whatever you do throw some wax on that exposed metal before winter hits.

You will have a hard time straightening that by yourself. Did you get any info from the vehicle that hit you? tag#? Did you do a police report?

You could try wood and a jack to push it out but more than likely the floor is buckled there so it may take some hammering under pressure.

No I was away a lot this past year playing soldier and was cutting corners on bills to save money and it caught up and bit me in the ass.

No I was completely blind sided and when I regained control was in heading in the opposite direction by the time I was able to go after the guy he was long gone.

That sucks. Some way to repay the guys protecting us. Thanks for your service man. Hope you see the guy on the street someday.

I suggest welding a bolt to the stoutest part of the panel or a section of flat bar then using a mole clamp and a come along. After u get it pulled to the desired position leave it till spring unless u have a place to work out of the weather. Buy that section and replace it. If u was closer I could repair it for you man. If you have any ?'s feel free. I can walk u through the process.

Is the door still completely straight? Unscathed from the accident? Also wondering if you could get behind the rocker with a pry bar to try to bend it outward a bit....

There's not going to be a real quick and easy fix IMO, but you may be able to at least improve things to the point where your door might seal a little better...

Sucks to hear, sorry about that. I'd still bring it by a bodyshop and explain your situation. They'd at least let you know what you'd be looking at to repair it, and maybe they'd offer you some type of advice as to how you might go about trying to fix it yourself....

BTW, who's your insurance provider? I'm in MA too...I have Geico - cheapest I could find out here, but they don't like to pay out...

That part of the side panel is actually 2 layers I believe, so you may not have any damage visible on the inside. You could possibly cut from behind the inner panel and use a body repair kit (they have em cheap at Harbor Freight) and make it work.

But I'd contact a paintless/dentless repair place in your area. They can do some amazing things if the dent isn't creased or creased very little. Pretty damned amazing. And it could make things go back to normal.

I'd suggest some rocker guards though. That would help mask any lower issues (once you get things a bit straighter.

If they know you're active military, many places offer a serious discount. You are off protecting our freedoms - the least they can do is help unscrew you from a bum situation by offering a nice deal. Don't be afraid to ask for a military discount - you've earned that - AND a whole lot more.

No the doors untouched besides a small scratch on the hinge. I got it lifted some with a pry bar so the tire wouldn't rub. I plan on trying to work on it some more this weekend when I have some free shop time. Also I have liberty mutual and the coverage I had left me SOL on repairs if the driver actually stopped I would have been fine but the douche didn't.

The panel with the fender isn't too bad it is pushed in enough to throw off my hood some but overall not bad. The panel that is with the tub is dinged up good the inside is fine but tackling something like that would be over my head. As for the rocker guards Iv always wanted to install some and never got around to it. After I get it fixed my hand will be forced into it now I'll just have to tell the Mrs. its needed for support :thumb:.

I had them for a short time too...all insurance companies suck - they want your money but never like to pay out if you ever have to actually use the insurance you've been paying for...

I'd still run by a bodyshop...can't hurt to get a professional opinion even if you can't afford to go that route right now...

You have really no choice but to let a body shop fix it. You dont have the proper tools or know how to fix it right. Get several estimates from body shops including pdr shops. You dont want those rust spots to spread and no amount of riggin it will prevent a downpour from soaking your interior. You spent too much money on the jeep to expect a half ass diy repair.

Lee, the fender can be replaced w/o much difficulty. The worst part is removing things attached to the inner fender. I have a couple from my TJ if you need them. PM me for information on that.

Seriously, contact the paintless/dentless repair folks near you. You may be surprised.

After I flopped my TJ a few years ago, I used the body kit from Harbor Freight to fix part of the cowl/hood where the passenger hood hinge was as well as pound out some serious dents. Wasn't perfect, but lasted until I could replace the panels (I got a hold of some freebie body parts).
