I have a 2002 Jeep TJ, Manual 5 speed, tilt steering. The linkage between the ignition switch and the key lock cylinder broke. It is a small square shaped steel bar approximately 3/16 of an inch across. I have been told that it is integrated into the steering column, but I need to know if there is another way to repair it without replacing the entire steering column.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

I'm doing the same thing tomorrow on my 03 TJ. Wouldn't crank Monday leaving work. Tried it several more times and finally turned over. Got the part on Tuesday for $45. It cranked fine until today but, again, started up after a few more tries. Will fix her for good tomorrow.

The first video is all I needed as it pretty much matched everything on my Jeep. Be careful of the white plastic pin when you are assembling everything back together. It's easy to bend it.
