Not true. You're talking about a major undertaking. If you have your heart set on a swap, then why not swap in a V8. I believe you could swap in a 350 for cheaper than a 6.

little or no changes in the fact that you wouldn't have to modify the firewall. that's about the only thing you wouldn't have to change. any engine swap is a big undertaking like amerijeep said. swapping in a 4.0 might be a bit easier than others, but still alot of work.

the big things i am conserned about is the engine monts and the fly will stuff like that i know i have to get a new computer and fule injectore thing like that but i dont weld and putting a v8 will reqires that

Yeah, me and Kyle are on the same page. I honestly believe if anyone feels they need a jeep with the 6, then they need to buy a jeep with a 6. Sell your jeep and buy another one. You'll come out much better that way. EIther way, I don't believe the gain is worth the loss financially, unless you have to have an engine swap.

Putting in the 6 will require fabrcating and welding too. The motor mounts are not the same.

Yeah buddy, if you're wanting to upgrade engine, might as well go V8, that's what i did, 350 v8 LT1 camaro engine, and a nv4500 transmission, solid build, strong build, and a nearly bulletproof transmission at that. a 6 cyl is the stronger stock jeep, but its not THAT strong, hardly strong at all actually...

But if you are heart set on a 6, get-r-done.

yeah man its gonna be alot to change it over

i think you will need a new tranny to accompany the i6 or a v8

do a v8 that would be rad brother

I agree with bowman....as jeepers we almost have to worry more about tranny than the amount of horsepower we're puttin out. That ax.....5 I believe that is in your seven-slot right now is weak...even for a 4 banger. Go up to a six and you're stretching it even more. If you love your jeep... save up the dough and get a good power train put in and do it right. I saw in a new 4wd catalog someone putting a new 5.7L GTO engine into a TJ. I'm in the same boat as you. If it's hp gains you need, get a few slight ones ( air intake, throttle body, header) and just save up for the V8. But that's just what I'm doing. Hope this helped.

No one has mentioned the transfer case. When you upgrade to a v8 I'm sure the t-case has to be upgraded as well.

man actually the NP231 is one of the stronger things on these old jeeps. It's my understanding that they will easily handle V8 power until you're up around 400 at the motor. I don't know about you...but 350 hp in a jeep would be wicked and honestly probably too much. But this could be wrong and obviously most people when doing such a swap would go ahead and go for the brand new atlas t-case...which you could run in a tank.
