I went wheelin' this weekend and got in water a bit too deep and now can't get jeep to change gears, it is stuck in 1st gear. I can get in reverse but can't get out of 1st even manually. I read some threads about "limp mode" but understand the 32RH tranny does not have limp mode. 2 questions: 1) Any ideas on what else I can check? 2) Where is the transmission control module on the 2001 model jeep?

Unless the kickdown cable came unhooked, your best bet is to get the fluid and filter changed and torque converter flushed NOW!! and the H stands for hydraulic meaning there is no computer controller

You need to do an immediate drain and flush of the transmission. Immediately, don't wait! Water will dissolve the adhesive used to hold the friction clutch materials which can ruin the transmission in short order. This is not a simple drain and refill, you need to flush all of the contaminated ATF out of your transmission.

The vent for the 32rh is right behind the torque converter and just above the shaft, there is a mod to move that vent to a different place and run a hose up higher, but realistically, if you are in bumper deep water for an extended time, there's a risk of talking on water. I never go in water or mud that is deeper than half of my 33 inch tire, because I don't have $1200 ready to hand out for another tranny

Thanks for the quick response! I checked the fluid and it looks fine, but is that still the best way to go...replacing the fluid and complete flush?

If water got inside your transmission, flushing it is the only way to save the transmission. A simple drain and fill will not do it. Use only ATF+4.

Listen to jerry and get it done asap. The longer it sits the less likely it will be savable. I ended up doing a rebuild :/

If you do get it rebuilt have them relocate the vent. I forgot to ask them too so now ill have to drop the tranny again and do it.

I let mine sit overnight and got it to the shop the next morning and that wasnt quick enough. Wasted money on the flush.

Listen to this man!! Happened to me, ran in some water, drove it home and to the shop the next day. Too late, damage was already done that quick. Had to rebuild.
:facepalm: Water/mud with a 32RH doesn't mix to well.
