Guys,

Just finished my CB install. Power direct to battery. Ground to bolt under dash. SWR readings are all under 2:1 regardless of channel.

My issue is that when I key the mic it actually makes all the dash lights and warning lights come on as well as the wipers automatically come on. Each and every time I key the mic it happens.

Ideas??

Lol weirddddd...Switch your ground to a different spot.

Where is your antenna coax route? Try re-routing the coax well away from any possible vehicle electronics/computers.

Yea..you know I have the CB mounted down on the passenger side of the center console to the right of the shifter. The antenna coax runs from the rear gate under the carpet up to the center console and isn't within less than a couple feet of the actual upper dash area...

I don't see coax causing radiated noise issues with on-board computers... I would think it's more likely the ground location. Try grounding it close to the CB on the tub somewhere (scrape away all the paint) or running the ground up to the battery or frame somewhere.

ok..about to give up. To try to elimiante things I actually went and picked up another new radio and another new coax cable. I ran completely new lines to the battery (pos/neg) and I replaced the stud and double checked the ground at the antenna.

The SWR is low (below 1.4:1) but guess what?? I key the mic and all my interior electronics go ape shit...I just don't get it. The only thing I have not bought a second new one of is the antenna...maybe I need to try that now.

I could be your battery or alternator, if either is weak the draw from the radio could be causing a low voltage problem, low voltage can make electronics do weird things.

Set a battery outside your jeep on the ground. Run a fresh set of leads to your radio, and put the jeep in the condition you experience the problem. Key the mic, what happened? If nothing, you know it is in the electric system (I cant figure how it wouldnt be).

Seems like a ground issue, low voltage in an electronic circuit, or MAYBE a dead short - electricity is pretty crazy and does crazy things. Keep narrowing down by testing. Test voltage everywhere. Battery, alt, radio, everywhere. Crazy symptoms, hate it for ya man. Good luck.

Well guys I finally figured it out on a whim. I hope that this will help someone else if they experience this. Just on a gut feeling I suspected that this was RF feedback into the CANBUS system and the only place it could have been coming from is the rear antenna area. I have the hard top on right now and with the antenna mounted on the rear gate it puts it within just a few inches of the rear wiper motor. I unplugged the lead that runs from the truck to the top just like when removing it and BAM...no more problem. RF was feeding back into the CANBUS directly from the transmitting antenna into the rear wiper.

CanBus strikes again. And that, folks, is why I will never own one. Too much over-engineering and too many computers.

Glad ya got it figured out, thats the 1st Ive heard of RF interference feeding into an electric system like that. Good catch.

I had exposure to an Audi tech right after the canbus was established. He had a car come in that the tach, speedo, and odometer didnt work, along with the radio. 2 weeks later he found the abs module wasnt grounding properly, making everything after it in the canbus circuit fail, which included the radio & instrument cluster. But the abs was functioning perfectly. And he was a 25 year Master Audi Tech. He also said the tech help line to Audi ran out of ideas, and he found it by guessing.
