OK, let me start off by saying that I am not the creator of this technique. I actually learned it a few years ago in a corvette forum for doing the back bumper. Also, if this has already been done here, I'm not trying to steal anyone's thunder. I had not seen this in anyone's mod posts....so here goes...
This mod is to add some color to the brushed silver overlay on the passenger side dash grab handle. My Jeep is DCR, so I chose a DCR colored paint.
1. You will need the supplies in photo 1. Mineral Spirits, flat head, something with a flat-square edge, paper towels, painters tape, and a can of your favorite spray paint in the color of your choice.
2. Remove the plastic silver inlay. A flathead screwdriver works perfect. Don't bother removing the screws first, they are just there for looks (2013).
3. Wipe down front of inlay with mineral spirits. Gets off all goop and ****.
3. Tape all around the Jeep and Since 1941. Make sure you press hard on the edges to make sure you don't get any bleed.
4. Take you favorite spray paint and lay down a few light coats of paint, waiting only a couple of minutes in between. You do not want or need to make it thick. Just cover the area of the writing.
5. Carefully remove tape while still wet.
6. SLIGHTLY wet a paper towel with mineral spirits (less is more), then fold the paper towel over so a "dry" portion of the towel covers the wet portion. Place this paper towel over the flat square object.
7. Wipe the insert with the flat object, being sure not to "dig in" or press hard.
8. The drier the paper towel, the better. You will have to wipe several times, moving to a new location on the paper towel to go to a clean area.
9. Clean up the rest of the bar and reinstall.
The End. Feel free to post with any comments or questions.
