'99 4.0 . I'm wondering if anyone else has had a simalar problem? I had a local shop put a new clutch in it for me recently and am now having some regrets.I'm not sure, but I have been thinking that they may have damaged the wiring going to the speed sensor, although I can't find any visable damage. I put my friend speed sensor from his tj into mine in an attemt to find out if my sensor was bad (did'nt help any) and now his jeep does the same thing. did my computer break his sensor? Is there some sort of computer reset that i'm unaware of? apart from the engine light and not having a working speedo, my jeep now stalls when coming to a stop and the cruise control won't work. any ideas? thanks.

im having similar trouble with my 99 sahara 5 spd that i just purchsed...
speedo/cruise doesnt work, stalls out when coming up to a stop sign. will run and rev some as can be when in neautral and whatnot. took the jeep to get the check engine code read,
P0500- speed sensor problems.
not sure if its the sensor or if the previous owner screwed something up on the lower pinion gear piece when installing the SYE kit thats on it.

is there anyway to check the sensor itself is still working by hooking it up to a volt meter or something???
thanks in advance guys
fixed my problem...

took the speed sensor out, then the lower portion with the gear pinion on it. it seems whenever they put the SYE kit on they didnt install the gear pinion correctly, it needed to be rotated about 20-30 degrees in the whole to engage the gear with the out put shaft. there are two sets of notches on the top of it where the retaining clip screews down onto. i lined that up, reinstalled everything, test drove and everything seems to work fine now. speedo/ odometer, no apperent stalling coming to stop lights now, and cruise.

just thought i'd share
