Have a set of doors I think are off a cj 7 they are the turn handle kind with the striker that slides over and latches. I own a yj and I've already got the doors working good however I'm wanting to get a set of keys for the doors. How hard is it to change the cylinder so I can get some new keys for this I want to lock my jeep!

Usually locks are only good for keeping the honest people out of your ride. If the common crook wants in it and the doors are locked, they will just break a window, or pry on the latch for the wing window.

To answer your question, you can get a set of cylinders with a matching key to replace yours at Morris 4x4. www.jeep4x4center.com. Just look in the CJ section for door locks.

It is a simple process to change. Take the handle out of the door, take the rod attachment off the cylinder, take the snap ring off the cylinder, slide the old cylinder out and reverse the procedure with the new cylinder.

Okay great thank you. I was trying to find a write up on how to change them but some people made it seem like it was near impossible. I agree though about the locks keeping honest people out but breaking a window makes a lot more noise and suspicion than opening a door. There's a ton of people around my jeep when I work when I'm not near it. I'm gonna try to get them changed very soon thanks for your help!
