I just did a successful clutch kit replacement for my daughters 2007 Yaris. I got it off E-bay because that's all I could afford at the time. I have a 2002 Wrangler X. I've not ever had any problems with it. I was thinking I may be due for a clutch soon based on year/milage. I just hit 100K. How long do they normally last? What should I look for in a QUALITY clutch replacement? I see on Ebay: clutch discs, whole kits, and "stage 3?" I'm thinking of getting the whole kit. Clutch disc, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and pressure plate.

RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE. Thanks in advance. Nick

Best clutch to use in a Wrangler is a LUK clutch. You won't benefit from using a high dollar "performance" clutch. I have bought several here with great results and good prices: clutch kit | Partsgeek.com

I suggest that if there is no evidence of failure, that you hold off. Many times Wrangler clutches are good for between 150K-almost 200K miles, and they typically go to at least 125k miles.

Good to know. Daughter had to limp home at 25mph and by the time she got here it smelled terrible. Luckily the flywheel was still good. No blue spots or pits/grooves. She probably knew something was wrong but didn't say anything.

Should I hold off all together. So, 100K in 14 years, I could probably go another 4-5 years before ever having to bother with it?

Any special tools involved? I would up using my motorcycle lift to cradle/lift the transmission back into place on the Yaris. Worked like a charm. Damn glad I had it.

I did mine at 115k when I blew it down shifting. Special tools would be something to use as a transmission jack. The second time i did it(when my tranny went, ended dropping the tranny twice for that) I used a friends electric impact drill and it made the job removing the transmission 100x easier. Removed all the bolts in about 2 minutes.

I would say wait a little unless you really want to do it or experience signs of failure.

Your driving habits greatly influence your clutch's longevity. I've routinely driven trucks 180K with nary a clutch problem (mostly Toyotas) but I rarely slip the clutch. It's either in or out. I'd say replace your clutch when it needs it.

Here's a video of pulling the transmission we made a couple of years ago. It has a list of the tools needed to complete the job at the start including sizes. The transfer case/transmission can be pulled as one unit, you just want to make sure you have a jack you can strap and/or balance it all on.
