I picked up our Jeep a few weeks back and I had a compass heading in the display beside the out door temperature reading. Now I just have 2 lines where the compass reading used to be. Pushing the compass button or holding it down does nothing.

Any ideas?

Have you tried this from the OM? The zone map is in the manual.

Magnetic materials should be kept away from the top
of the center of the instrument panel. This is where the
compass sensor is located.​

To Set The Variance​

Start the engine and leave the transmission gear selector
lever in the PARK position. Press and hold the RESET
button on the steering wheel (for approximately ten
seconds) until the current variance zone number is displayed.
To change the zone, press and release the STEP
button to increase the variance one step. Repeat as
necessary until the desired variance is achieved.​

The factory default zone is 8. During programming,
the zone value will wrap around from zone 15 to
zone 1.​

Manual Compass Calibration​

If the compass appears erratic, inaccurate or abnormal,
you may wish to calibrate the compass. Prior to calibrating
the compass, make sure the proper zone is selected.
1. Start the engine and leave the transmission in the
PARK position.
2. Press and hold the RESET button (for approximately
10 seconds) until the current variance zone number is
displayed.​

3. Release the RESET button, then press and hold again
for approximately 10 seconds, until the direction is
displayed, with the CAL indicator on continuously in the
display.
4. To complete the compass calibration, drive the vehicle
in one or more complete 360–degree circles, under 5 mph
(8 km/h) in an area free from power lines and large
metallic objects, until the CAL indicator turns off. The​

compass will now function normally.

I've got the optional 420 NAV unit. There is no reset button on the steering wheel.

There is a compass button, but it does nothing. Strange. The compass display was there when we picked it up and was there for about the first week. Not it's just 2 short lines to the left of the outside temperature display.

u The reset is in your menu that you can scroll through with the directional buttons on the left side of your steering wheel. As far as I know the compass button is just to bring you out of your menu and back to the main display.

May want to check the satellite antenna connection on the back of your head unit. Had the same thing happen to me and the connection had broken off (the Fakra connector). Dealer swore that compass in the EVIC was not related........but turned out it was LOL. They were great and fixed under warranty.

I'll check that connection. It says in my manual to scroll down to the compass info and I used to have that. It's not even there now. It also says that the compass button has 8 different reading to scroll through. I've got diddley squat.
