So I connected my winch last night, and went out to load test the synthetic rope and wind it onto the drum, as soon as the rope got tight, it pulled out of the metal clamp that was attached to the drum.

Should I have crimped that clamp first? Or should it have already been ready to roll? Couldn't find anything in the instructions about it.

You want to have at least 3 wraps on any drum at any time. The screw or clip that holds the line on isn't rated for the 10000lbs the rope is. Put on 3 wraps "loose" and when it starts to tense up, it should automatically suck up the slack and "bite" onto the drum with the pressure on the line, not the clip. Hope this helps.

You should put6-7 wraps on the drum first. The clamp is just to hold the line in place, not keep it connected to the drum under pressure. Hope that helps.
