OK. If they are the 8700 J2s, they have an H13 connector to mate up with the JK H13 connector and no modulator block needed.

You have had those lights in your Jeep for 7 years before you started having issues. That's not a crappy headlight, that's actually fairly good service.

As Flyfisher commented - swap them from side to side and see if the issue moves to the other side (headlight issue) or stays on the same side (wiring issue). As Flyfisher also commented if it's a wiring issue, it could be the connector or perhaps you have had a critter decide the insulation on one of your wires would make a tasty snack - not an uncommon issue since much of the modern wire insulation is plant based not rubber.
I’m going to check it out this week. It needs to be looked at . Just need the time.

If the connector seems loose, then gently squeeze the pins on the light together. Not a lot, and very gently as you don't want to break them. Even a little bit should increase the resistance when sliding into the connector, which will increase the chance of them staying connected.
