I have a1993 wrangler which I am rebuilding. How difficult and costly would it be to change from the auto to a manual transmission?

All I can say is good luck on finding all that stuff on a trans for $500. Not impossible I guess but highly unlikely.

The important thing to look for when you get a new transmission, make sure it has the external slave cylinder and not the internal one. You can find an AX-15 on craigslist generally in the $200+ range, but you may have to wait a bit for one to come up. There is a difference in driveshaft length as well. You'll need to change the output or input shaft (can't remember which) on the transfer case as well because it is a different length too.

Near me I found 2 for under $500. Both have external slave and shifters, bell housings, ect. One is $250 and the other is $350 but supposedly rebuilt recently.

Mabe you should buy them and resell them. Salvage yards here want $750 for them, and check ebay, Not much cheaper...
