Hey all! I have a 1999 jeep wrangler. Lately when I've had to sit in traffic for long periods of time, my jeep will start to make this sound that sounds like a crank or a sputter coming from the engine. Once when I pulled off the highway, the harder I accelerated, the louder the noise became and it drove sluggish. I will turn the engine off and let the jeep sit for awhile and will jump back out into the traffic after 10-15 minutes have passed. The jeep will run fine for awhile, but if it idles in traffic for another lengthy period of time, the noise will return. I've never let the noise continue for a long period of time for fear the jeep will stall out or something. Could anyone give me some suggestions as to what might be the culprit. I have taken it into the shop before and basically they have all told me since they can't hear the problem themselves they can't diagnose the problem. They will let the jeep run for a period of time, but the noise will never appear for them. I once thought it was related to a problem I had with my a/c. Water would basically back up into the passenger side floor. I have since had that problem fixed. Afterwards, I didn't hear the cranking noise for the longest time, but lately it has returned. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thank you.
