Well, the stock is 1/8" stamped steel and it has been reported that if you catch the edge hard it can peel back ever so slightly, enough to leak.
The Riddler covers, as are many others, are 1/4" cast iron and it's been said that if you hit something hard enough to make this cover fail you've surely got yourself into major trouble.
There are many test reviews out there. One review even shot covers with different caliber bullets. Not very scientific, but cool. They add protection, just like skids & steel bumpers... but when painted they look cool too.
