2015 JKU - No security system noted in the build sheet. I’ve had the Jeep for about a year. About a week ago, I parked in the driveway with the windows down, didn’t lock the Jeep. A few hours later I opened the door to grab something and the “alarm” goes off (horn honking). I had never had any idea that the Jeep had an alarm!

Now today, I noticed for the first time that the red security light above the temp gauge is blinking while the Jeep is parked. Never used to do that. Seems like it turns itself on after the Jeep sits for awhile. But... it’s not even supposed to have an alarm! And I don’t really want one.

The manual suggests that the light might indicate that the battery in the key is running low, but it’s not quite the same. Anyone experienced anything like this?

2015 Sahara? It likely has a rudimentary alarm system. If your build sheet lists a "Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System" and remote keyless entry, it should be a part of that system.

Okay I looked again and the build sheet does list the sentry system. But it seems as though it’s not been working for a year or so.... why would it start working again on its own?

I have had that option since June 2016, and seeing as how I usually unlock the Jeep from a good distance away and lock/leave via remote as I am walking away, I have yet to see the system work. Is it possible that you hadn't noticed it working until you triggered the system?

It is stock with the keyless remote. Manual doors are the only ones without it as far as I know, at least on the recent JK/JKUs.

The system is armed when you exit the Jeep (no weight on seats) and either lock the doors with the hand button on the drivers door with the door open, or use the remote to lock the Jeep. The only way to lock the vehicle without arming the alarm is to unlock the drivers door with the manual button, exit the Jeep and lock the door with the manual button.

Opening any door, even using the key, without using the remote will trigger the alarm. I did that on my then one month old new 2015 while on a trip. I had stopped at a reunion registration point, locked my Jeep and started to walk away. I realized I had left the folder with my pre registration info in it on the passenger seat. Since I was on that side of the Jeep, I just used my key to open the passenger door and set off the alarm. (BTW, the lights are supposed to flash as well).

IN normal operation, the alarm is armed and disarmed without you even thinking about it. If it was armed, someone could have locked the door with the door open. Or you could have a loose battery connection or ground, or even a weak battery. Those things have been know to drive the electronics wonky.

I have had the blinking red light too, just above the temp gauge at the 1 o'clock position, ever since the day I bought my 2014. It activates whenever I lock my Jeep with the keyfob (which is the way I lock it, like 100% of the time).
