After hitting my front diff on a nice boulder this weekend and nearly ripping off one of the bolts I have decided I should get a better diff cover with recessed bolt heads. So I don't want it just for looks.

Who has experience with the Riddler Dana 44 cover or other covers and can share some positive or negative feedback? Especially wrt track bar clearance in front and trail damage. My JKUR is not lifted yet so I am concerned with clearance before and after a lift. There are a number of TJ threads that discuss the clearance issues with aftermarket diff covers but not much wrt the JKs that I could find.

Also, is a fluid pump generally required for the higher fill hole or just a nice to have? Should I just get a new bolt, a lube locker gasket, and use that with the stock cover and call it a day? Maybe just get a 4" lift and 37s so I don't have to worry as much the about diff. :punk: Or learn to drive. :hide:

I'm ashamed to admit, I havn't done any real offroading with my rig since putting on my riddlers (I don't think my 11 hour offroad rally counts :rofl:). I will say though, theyre much beefier than stock (but not so beefy that they stick out everyware, its just thicker material all the way through, when you take off the stock covers youll see what i mean), and I love how mine came out. In terms of how my paint job will hold up to the rocks? I have my doubts, but oh well. In terms of filling them, will certainly need a pump of some sort. Just not enough room to get the bottle in there (and I have the 4" lift!"

I have the Riddlers on mine. No clearance issues at all. I have smacked the front cover pretty hard on a boulder. It only scratched the paint I used on it. Bolts are recessed so you don't have to worry about tearing them off anymore. I filled mine directly from the bottle. Keep in mind that the fill hole is up a little higher so measure how much diff fluid you put it. If you fill it to the hole some fluid will exit the breather tube (trust me I know...LOL).
No issues with the front or read track bar.

I just put riddlers on my Dana 44's over weekend. No lift (that will change in 2 weeks), in fact I have about 500 lbs of additional crap making her squat. If you jack the front frame up on drivers side there is enough room to get both ratchet and 1 quart bottle of Mobil 1 Synthetic gear lube in there no problem. The oil bottles are plastic and will bend to fit pretty easy when required. No jacking required to fill rear. I would skip pump, unless you are just using it to drain. I think it's better to remove cover when draining anyway so you can hit gears with brake cleaner and really clean it up nice before putting new oil in.

I have ARB covers and am very satisfied with them. While you don't need a fluid pump, it will make the job easier. It's a must if you change manual transmission or TC fluid.

Before I installed my lift I actually had some slight rubbing near the top right of the cover (I noticed some scratches in the paint). I just took a dremel and grounded off a little on the top to let it clear with no issues.

I have the Rancho RockGear Dana 44 Differential Covers (x2); and the Rancho RockGear Front Differential Glide Plate on the front. Mucho fancio.

I love posts like this. :nonono: I did search the forum and I do probably more searching than most. But the search function brings up so many threads so I scan the titles and check a few because reading through all of them takes forever. By now probably any topic has been covered many times over so should we should just lock the forum down and not allow any more new threads? You could have at least linked one or two the "several threads" you are referring to.

Anyway...I appreciate the help from everyone. The ARB looks great but based on price and the recos I'm going to try the Riddler.

Agree. There could be new info from someone on here that didn't post in one or more previous theads. Available information, opinions, and products are constantly changing. For example, I'm not claiming that my input is helpful, but I haven't posted those pics on any previous diff cover thread. Also, if you don't want to read a thead, just skip it. That's easier than jumping into it and complaining about it.

Something intersting I noticed on my recently installed Riddler covers on my stock suspension 2012 JK Unlimited Rubicon on the front axle: The upper plug for the fill hole is rubbing the sway bar. It was put in tight. I used a grinder and took some metal off plug which should take care of it. Also, there is a lower drain plug built into the bottom of pumpkin on the Dana 44 which I just noticed when putting new AFE Y pipe on (getting my Rock Krawler 3.5" Max Travel suspension on this weekend - can somebody say King Adjustable Shocks - awe yea!), so having a drain hole on differential cover is not neccessary (just a fill hole).

I have the 1st gen PSC (Riddlers). Had no issues w/fitment or clearance & I have run the TF monster TB. Very stout & youll see why when u wrestle that heavy sucker up there to bolt-on. The fill plug is up high & youll need to check, measure & fill w/the correct amount of fluid. The higher fill plug doesnt give the ability to run addl fluid, as overfilling just pukes it out the breather. I believe the frt held just under 2 qts, but search first. In the rear, in addition to the covers, I run the AEV slider. Very nice.

Front Differential Capacity:
2.7 pints (1.35 quarts)
Rear Differential Capacity:
4.75 pints (2.375 quarts)
