I looked back through the archives on here for this topic, and found a few possibilities, but none sounded like my specific issue.
'98 4.0 manual sport
I had the fuel pump replaced about a year ago, due to poor starting. It had started and run fine, until the last few weeks.
Now, whether hot or cold, driven 5 days ago or 5 minutes ago, it has to crank a few times ("lug-lug-lug-fire") before starting, which it didn't have to do before. Seems to be getting worse and I'm worried it may not start at any time.
Drainback valve?
Fuel pump again? (Take it back to shop?)
Fuel pressure regulator?
Spark plugs? (Dunno if they've ever been replaced.)
I've been accumulating a list of maintenance issues and this may be the kicker.

Does it lug slowly? it could be the starter. Also, it wouldnt hurt to pull and inspect a plug.

Cranks ok I guess. Doesn't seem to bog down, at least.
I'm just used to it starting on the first crank, every time.

Does it run rough once it starts? If so I'd go plugs

No. Actually runs fine, once it's started. Battery? Guess I should get it checked. Due to rotate tires anyways. Will have them check battery while I'm there.
