Have a 2007 JK, bought used in '10. Began upgrading it slowly and just did the poor-man's Teraflex lift (leveling kit) and mounted 33" BFG KM2s.

Had to pay the dealer to disconnect the ESP because the sensors did not like the tire handling, and kept trying to autobrake the vehicle on turns. Fine - after raising a stink the dealer only charged me $50.

But I paid another price because now the chime constantly rings whenever I switch into gear or change gears, "reminding" me that the ESP has been turned off. Very annoying especially when doing a 15 point turn on a narrow road.

Wouldn't mind disabling the chime as well for leaving the key in the ignition when I'm scouting out a line without a spotter.

Is there a straightforward way to turn off the chime, for all circumstances?

Browsing the forum, I found one old post that said to "pull fuse 4." Well, the '07 JKs don't have a "fuse 4" but they have cartridge fuses (J1-J22) and Mini-fuses (M1-M38). And the fuses are not clearly labeled by the J and M designations. I think Chrysler didn't want owners messing with them.

Found another post that said to put epoxy into the chime itself. If that's the best recommendation could you provide step-by-step instructions for someone who only changes oil and filters? E.g., where to find this component, what it looks like, cautions, etc? Hate to admit it but I just do basic maintenance on my rig and removing panels, cutting wires, is not instinctive to me.

Already did the sequence to disable the chime for unbuckled seat belts, so no need to provide that.

Surely another JK rig owner has been through this. Cheers and thanks --

Sounds like you need to address the real problem of why the ESP is activating. Probably as simple fix like centering the steering wheel.
On a side note, it surprises me the dealer surcomvented the system.

Believe me, I tried hammering out the problem with the dealer. When I finally cornered him and said, "you mean Jeep made a vehicle with sensors that don't work well with lifts and larger tires" the service manager had to give in and say he didn't know why.

I turned my outrage meter up to medium-well and got him to do the sensor disconnect for only $50 instead of $125 or whatever. But then they claimed I would have to live with the chime alert, which didn't seem like a big deal at the time but it now is.

Wouldn't the AEV ProCal module solve this issue by programming it for 33" tires? That way all the factory systems can do their job.

Many have lifts and big tires, myself included. And no issues. The threads I've read with people that have had similar issues, 8 out of 10 times the steering wheel was not centered. Others have had a bad speed sensor in one of there wheels. I'm sure people will chime in (no pun intended) and have ideas to help you out GL

Well it's interesting to consider -- I was hoping for a way to disable the chime but now everyone says get the ESP fixed. More opinions anyone? Especially those related to my original question, getting rid of the chime period.

Fix the ESP it's a lot more productive in the end and its a nice feature if you ever drive on ice especially in a 2door.
