Im wondering if there is a trick to the u-joint install on the H yoke of the front driveshaft. The one that is giving me trouble is the one that pushes out with the spring. I cant seem to seat the caps before hitting pins.

Maybe install that one onto the H, then install the H onto the other joint thats on the shaft?

I saw a bunch of vids, but not this one, it helped!

Looks like thats what he did, mount the outer one first. But then he struggles some on the inner one. He mentions swiveling around, to get the pins to line up, think this is what I'll do if I run into that.

Nothing challenging sticks out to me from when I did it a few months back. Once you get in there it should all work out. Good luck

Perfect timing for me with your question. Thanks. This is one of the videos I was looking for although the guy is an obnoxious potty mouth.


I'll figure it out on my own.


I disassembled my front driveshaft tonight, cleaned it well, and then repainted. I will be re-assembling tomorrow with new u-joints and was wondering about the best sequence of assembly. Not sure that the video shows that, but at least gives some guidance. I'm using Spicer non-greasable components.

Things went smoothly over the weekend! Got the front rebuilt, but still need to install it on the Jeep. Also rebuilt the rear and got it back on the Jeep. Less vibration going down the road, not as much vibration on take off, and doesnt vibrate when Im going slower in a lower gear.

Things improved with the Rear rebuild and install. But things did not with the front rebuild and install. Still got some vibration, especially going faster on the interstate. It was like that before removing the shaft too. Hmmmmmm, what to check next.

Even if it was like that before my lift?


I'll tell ya when it started, 3 years ago when I dealt with a transmission shop that I'll never go back to. After installing a crappy reman trans, it started the bad vibe, and when I confronted them about it, they told me it was "an old Jeep", but you and I both know it aint that old. Also told me "things might not line up like they use to" as well.

After that, I started replacing things, both front axle u joints, both wheel bearings, and the motor and trans mount. The trans mount they originally put on had REAL bad vibes, and it was a harder one, so I bought a softer one, which helped a lot.

That trans didnt last a year, another was put in by them, it was bad too within a few months, and by then they said the warranty was out. So I bought a new AX-15 Terminator, put in by someone else, and had the throw out bearing replaced. Throw out went out within a year again, and Im thinking its on the way out again.

I'll also say before the trans work, I slid into a guard rail, with the wheel taking the impact, at about 20-25 mph.

Nothing looked bent, except the rim some, but still held air. Wondering if something might be bent, after reading another thread yesterday. Would that cause a pinion angle to be off?

I've also replaced the drag link, did the ZJ tie rod upgrade, and when doing the OME lift, I replaced the track bars too. Also all arms were replaced less than 2 years ago.

I've prolly already said more than you needed to know, sorry, coffee got me talking lol. Just thought any info I could give might help.

Feels like Im having so many issues, that I should start a new thread, but I dont even know where to begin. It also feels like the toe is off, even after alignment. Always pulls to the left, pulls to the left when braking, and also squirrely on the interstate. I just wanna fix it lol.

Well that’s definitely better than just a vibration. You might get some help with a new thread in the tech forum, lead off with that description.

Bumping a guard rail could have bent your axle or axle C, causing caster to go off and in turn your pinion angle. But judging from your description it sounds like you’ve had some tranny issues.

with driveshafts you can just disconnect it and see if the vibe is still present. If it is, then try disconnecting your tranny from everything and see if you get any vibes going down the road :p

I do have an update though! I "think" maybe a joint wasnt centered right or something, because it seems to of smoothed out more than it was after going up and down the interstate the past few days.

Also, after thinking on it, I can prolly start removing a couple washers at a time to see if that helps. Because my front shaft was removed, and I was dialing in the rear shaft vibes after the lift, but the rear had a bad joint while doing so and I didnt know it. So it might not need as much of a drop as its got now (about an inch of washers).

Think Im gonna pick up an angle tool this weekend first though, and check my angles. Maybe put a straight edge on the axle.
