Now that I have nailed down the going rate for a set of 2013 Rubicon take-offs, my next question is: are there any significant disadvantages to upgrading to these from the wheels/tires that came with my 24S package?

I opted for the 5sp auto and 3.73's, so I don't think power loss will be a problem. Noticable sure, but not a deal breaker. More concerned with if the sport suspension is firm enough to handle the heavier tires. I understand Rubicons have better shocks and heavier springs.

I am just looking for a little more clearance for modest off roading without having to lift. I am a 90% DD, so I appreciate the supple ride of the sport most of the time. Anyone else do this swap and have feedback?

Rubi's have better shocks but the springs are the same (unless the 13's are different)...Mine came with 14 front and 56 rear coils.

I have read that they are not so great as snow tires. I'm going to try them this winter and see if they are livable. I may end up going with the lighter 33" duratrac's. Everyone seems to like those, especially as a winter tire.

The rubicon tires should be rotated to keep them wearing even. All tires should be, but with the big tread they are more likely to wear unevenly. I'm going to try to rotate mine every oil change using the "rearward cross" method.

People get rid of the Rubi take offs for a reason. Not that they are bad for stock tires but there are just better tires out there and the wheels still leave you with improper backspacing for bigger tires later. If you plan on leaving it stock which is hard to do, then they will be fine and have a little better traction over the Sport S tires but it still will limited you on tire sizes after the BFG's wear out.

The maximum tire I could forsee would be a 33". I assume the stock Rubicon wheels can accomodate a 33x12.5 without sticking out too far past the fenders?

You can not put 33X12.5's on stock wheels unless you don't plan on turning or running spacers. The biggest width you can have on a stock wheel, Sport S or Rubi wheel is 11" wide. The stock Sport S and Rubi wheel is the same size just different style. Any wider and it will rub.

285/70/17's (11.2" wide) will even rub slightly on sharp turns. You can add spacers but they aren't really recommended and some tire places won't even take off the wheels if you have them on. I ran them for a while on mine when I was running 285's but ended up getting new wheels in the end.

You need wheels with at least 4.5" BS to run 12.5" wheels in general. Wider wheels can get by with a little less. To run 33X12.5X17, you will need a bs of 4.5 for a 17X8" wheel or 5" bs for a 17X9" wheel. Stock Rubi wheels have a bs of 6.25" and are 17X7.5" wheels

For real? Now you're getting me worried.. Are they really not so good on snow? How bad will it get?

Pretty sure I will need to turn at some point! Ihad better check and see how large of a Duratrac I could fit on the rubicon rim before shelling out big bucks. I wolud plan on swapping out the BFG's for a better tire within a year or two and wouldn't want to buy a new set of wheels. So many things to be aware of. Good thing we love our Jeeps!

Other than slightly more tire noise I have not noticed any negative side effects over the last 6k miles. Next up is a leveling kit or perhaps a small lift kit. Eventually I will add larger tires but I make a 500 mile (each way) drive home at least twice a month right now. Don't really want to give up any gas mileage but I did want to improve the Jeeps offroad abilities. I paid $950 for all 5 wheels and tires and the shocks. Than I sold my old ones for $500. So for $450 it was a good upgrade in my opinion.

Swapped 13k miles ago. Some loss of wet weather traction and a more noise, but it was a great decision for me.

You'll be fine should you choose to go that direction.

I've heard the tires are good in loose or deep snow but not packed snow or ice, the reason being the tires are not siped and the tread blocks are very large.

I have the Rubi wheels and tires on my sport s (came this way from the dealership) so I'll see how these tires stand up to a good old Canadian winter as there's no money in the budget right now after leveling the jeep for new wheels and tires. Hopefuly later next year I'll go to some 33's

They are the exact same size as the Sport S wheels. So you are really just looking at one tire vs another.

The KM's look better, and will be better off road. But will be a tad louder, you might have a very slight dip in mpg, and they might be worse in rain, packed snow and ice. It is just tread design. KM vs SR-A

My gas mileage went from around 17.5 to 15.5 , But I haven't recalibrated my speedometer yet. Also mine might be worse than some folks because I had the sport wheel/tires to begin with, not the sport s wheel/tires.

Perfect, this is very helpful. I think it is worth a try. I love my Jeep now and magine it will only get better when it has a little "growth spurt". It is going to be a Sportubicon.

Sport T- that's funny I call mine a Rubicon Light. I don't rock crawl so I did not need the transfer case. The lockers would be nice but that can be added down the road if needed. I have had her off road a few times and so far she does everything I have asked.

For the record, Rubicon models don't have stiffer springs. Max Tow package does not give you stiffer springs.
