Drilling Holes

I want to buy the Smittybilt Jerry Can Holder and it says it uses bolts to mount on. So before I take the Dewalt to my baby girl all willy nilly I have two questions.

What's a good rule of thumb for a place to or to not drill in the body, tub, and roll cage?

It seems like there are some pre drilled holes in the tub in different places in the tub. But when I look closer, it seems like it would be super difficult to get a nut on the other side of the hole. Is there something I'm missing?

It's an '02 Wrangler X

I took the long way. I installed a Rock Hard bumper and spare mount. The spare mount can support 2 jerry can mounts, as well as an extra "luggage" rack. I love it.
