To answer your questions. The front of the rear drive shaft was a slip yoke. The rear universal had all four bolts stripped or sheared off. i think the rear drive shaft was too short, because of the 4 in lift kit. Another problem. The book says do not tow unless both drive shafts are removed. Well my son towed this 91 Wranglar 800 miles. The slip yoke when it pulled out of the housing at the back of the t/case, damaged the housing. The drive shaft then spun around and hit the muffler and ripped the speedomiter cable loose. And then shered off. The drive shaft is gone and lays somewere between LAX and Lsv.DesertYJ said:Mr. Clifford is correct, unless you damaged the xfercase or transmission.
Why did the rear shaft fall off?
It is bolted on at both ends. Where did it break?
What position did you have the transfer case in when you were towing it? What about the transmission, (auto, manual) what gear/position was it in?
