Whilest I was installing my under hood lights I dropped a 5/16 nylon insert lock nut into my engine bay on the passenger side. I heard it clink and clank around like a pinball but it never exited.

I looked for it for 2 hours but couldn't find it.

Engine cover was on.

The hood was titled back on the windshield when i fumbled it out my hands into the engine bay.

Any suggestions on where it might have gone?

I ended up using a magnet after that to keep the washers in place whilest I 2 finger threaded the replacement nut on the bolt.

It's probably laying on top of some skid plate or in between a heat shield and something hot. Or you might find it 20 feet away on your garage floor or driveway.

Go buy another one and shortly there after you'll find the one you lost. :)
lol. I had an extra one in my stash and thought the same thing...or I would find it on the floor somewhere.

In a year or two when you forget all about it you’re going to be working on something in the engine bay and find it. You’ll then spend the next 2 hours wondering why you have an extra nut.
