I been doing alota research on the bumpers from ebay, the smittybilt knockoffs, and decided to order some.

I just got done installing my front stinger and rear bumper/tire carrier on my 08 today. Install went smoother than I thought.

Front Stinger- I bolted my winch to the bumper before I bolted the bumper to the frame. If I was smarter, I would have bolted the fog lights and fairlead to the bumper at this time as well. Install for the front stinger is straight forward... 4 bolts on passenger side and 4 bolts on the driver side. Luckily I have small hands, some of the spots were pretty tight when trying to tighten everything down. My winch bolted up no problem on this stinger, bolting the fairlead was a bit of a hassle. No drilling necessary to the bumper or the frame and looks real nice. Just zip tied my lcicense plate to the fairlead for now.

Rear tire carrier- For all you guys that did this install by yourself, props is all i gotta say. That thing was 1 heavy piece. Install for this was straightforward as well, slide the brackets into the frame and secure 2 bolts on each side, and then 4 bolts where the stock hitch used to be. This required a second person for me. I had a buddy hold up the bumper while I initially got some of the bolts started to secure it to the frame. The brackets were a pita because they keep wanting to move and its hard to get your second hand around and hold them in place. Once I had 2 bolts on each side secure, my buddy moved the carrier every which way so that I was able to get the 4 longer bolts in at the hitch location. Securing the spare tire mount to the bumper is pretty straightforward.

For my 3rd brake light/ license plate light, I went with the rockhard kit w/ LED lights. I removed my factory licese plate frame ( actually broke it off). I still have to run the wires, but I like the liecnse plate in the middle of the spare tire. I plan on taking apart the handle and wd40in it since its a bit of a bitch to latch and unlatch. Also getting a grease gun for the zerk fitting soon. And my teraflex cb antenna mount worked with this carrier as well.

Definitely seems like these bumpers are the same as smittybilts. I got both for 850 when the xrc carrier alone costs nearly that much. I know there are a few posts on this forum and others about these bumpers, but I wanted to just throw my personal experience out there. Sure, these bumpers probably are not made for heavy wheeling twice a week. But for someone who is on a budget, I think its a good buy. I know a few folks out there wouldnt put these things on their rig for many reasons, but for my application and cash, they definitely work.

Overall, definately happy with my purchase. Bumpers showed up 6 days after I placed the order, shipped from CA to NJ. took me about 20 minutes to undo the tape and cardboard on each bumper, filled up about 6 garbages bags full their packaging. Bumpers had a few dings when they arrived but nothing bad at all. The welds may not be the prettiest, but it definiately feels like this thing will hold up. Only time will tell. I talked to a few people who said the recovery points worked well for them as well. Im going to snap some pics tomorrow when I can.

You mentioned some slight damage from shipping, what are we talking here- some little scratches or complete powercoat chips? Been looking at that seller awhile too.

Just some little scratches man, I didnt see anything that should be too much of a concern unless your really, really anal. Definately worth it man. Honestly, i think i scratched the bumper the most with my scissors when trying to unpack the friggin thing. If anything, dupli -bed liner would match up with the color . They used a shit load of tape/ bubble wrap/ felt/ boxes and a shit load more tape to ship it. and the shipping time was pretty damn fast.

Do you have to relocate the license plate?

Do you have to relocate the license plate?
If you find any pics of a smittybilt tire carrier mounted on a jk, you will see that maybe the last 2 characters of the plate will be covered by the handle. Same exact thing with this bumper. Im pretty sure cops could hassle you for it. I think what you can do as a quick fix is maybe drill some new holes into your license plate and offset it, so that some of it is hanging out to the left. Im not sure if it would work or look good, but just a thought.

Keep in mind you will loose your 3rd brake light as well. What you could do as a cheap fix, is cut the stock spare tire carrier so that you only have the 3rd brake light and maybe 2 holes for the tailgate. This way, you can have your stock 3rd brake light mounted to your tailgate as it should with the stock wiring harness plugged in, but it hopefully wouldnt interfere with the new spare tire carrier. I dont know if i can explain it better, but that may work.

What I did was get the rockhard licenseplate relocation bracket w/ led brakelight and licenseplate light( see my pics up top). its a 100 bucks. I like the look of the license plate on the spare and its an easy install that involves routing wires and a little splicing .I could always help out with the install.

Here is a pic of the authentic smittybilt for comparison. They look a like just the bolts are not black and the cover on the right side of the tire swing is missing.
