hey guys, i just did flat flares and my jeep needs some rock sliders next to pull it all together and protect the sides of my body from goof-ups...:whistling:

so i reallt like the way that the rock sliders on ebay look...for less than $200 it seems like a great deal. like these:
97-06 Jeep TJ Wrangler Rock Sliders bumper with Bar, Side Rocker Guard with step | eBay

but i want to know - has anyone out there actually put them to the test? like if i bottom out on a rock will it actually do its job or will it just crumple like the body would if there was nothing there? im worried about how affordable they are, you know?

thanks yall!

I bought my rock slides off eBay form e-auto grills. They are the smittybilt src sliders. They fit good and look good and have held up fine for the last year and a half. And they were under 200.00 with free shipping.

I got these off ebay from e-autogrilles.

Smacked a big tree a couple weeks ago and only got a scuff mark. Bounced my Jeep around pretty good. I've also used the rail to pivot around a log in a tight spot which was kinda neat. No dents or dings and the powder coat is holding up well. Had them on for about 6 months and they are doing a good job.

Thanks 99er. Glad to hear they are holding up well, think I might have to pull the trigger on a set. Can't beat the price of them.

You wont regret your decision.... JCR's products are top-notch. Great customer service and made in the USA too :thumb:
Bought their stinger front bumper a couple months back and I couldn't be happier.
Needless to say I will definitely be purchasing from them in the foreseeable future

Yea I ended up getting a set of them. Install was straight forward and all hardware is included. One of the bolts was too long, the drivers side one hit the roll bars, and had to cut a quarter inch off it to fit. They are holding up well and I am very satisfied with them. If you end up getting them and have any questions feel free to ask.

If anyone reads this and is wondering, I have the tube style sliders that were recently posted about that bolt up the the frame and I can say they're a great investment. Saved my body from the rocks a few times on the trail. My buddy has them and got side-swiped last week. They are great because they buckle enough to absorb the shock of the impact without translating it to the frame. The front of the car he got hit by was trashed and the only thing damaged on his jeep was the flare and the rock slider. Great product!

Thanks for the order! Since our main tube angles and terminates into the sliders themselves they will slide around obstacles as opposed to that blunt end on the eBay ones getting caught. The other thing is, since the eBay ones were made for both the YJ and the TJ, compromises were made in the flare/slider gap. I don't think that gap is parallel on the TJ. We have seperate designs for the CJ/YJ/TJ/LJ.

The eBay ones do go up a little higher on the Jeep, come powder coated and are cheap. So they certainly have those advantages if that is what you're looking for.

how is the installation on the ebay rock sliders
I took the advice of Squid90 and got the e grills eBay sliders and they are very well made! Installation was fairly quick and simple on my 97 TJ:

But, had to grind down the length of two of the bolts to clear the roll bar inside. No big deal, you can use a hacksaw also.

I used a floor jack to position slider, then marked the far left hole and far right hole with a marker for drilling. Just be sure it is positioned exactly where you wanted before drilling.
I also had to trim about 3/16" off the two body mounts or they would set to high.

They already have rock rash, so they are holding up well, tried and tested!

Holding up very well! I have had the weight on the right side sitting on the slider, then slid right off the rock. No damage to the integrity of the slider, just deep scratches.
They do the job!

I just went outside and took these with my phone~
