I need an ECM for a 1990 YJ 2.5L. I know they are all rebuilt at this point. There are few to none out there. Anyone? Suggestions? Thank you.

In another thread you state the Jeep dies when you connect the MAP sensor.
Have you tested the MAP sensor. Have you cleaned it?

What tests have you done to be sure you need a ECM? Do you mean PCM? Even the Factory Service Manuals make it confusing as to which is which.
Are you referring to what we all call the computer?

More information about what diagnostics you've done and some pics will help us help you.

Good Luck, L.M.

I went thru a couple Cardone rebuilds in my 97 F250 a while back before getting it right. There's not many reman's out there so choices are few it seems. On my particular truck the Calibration code was critical to getting the correct one. IIRC rockauto had them for a decent price.

If becomes unobtainable could consider finding a donor 2.5 xj or TJ at junkyard with a 2.5 even newer obd2 from late 1990s era and swap in computer harness intake/TB/injectors fuel pump and sensors

Might need flywheel/flexplate and crank sensor so a fairly complex project but doable

Should still pass emissions

Thank you all for you reply’s. To answer....1) what is wrong? The YJ will turnover fine. Idles fine. When the accelerator is applied it coughs and sputters and cuts out. 2) I have been following eBay. 3) the MAP sensor was replaced, improved ignition etc. 4) I am not the one working on the YJ, my very trusted Jeep mechanic has been working and diagnosing everything. He brought in an electronics guy that confirmed it was the computer.
Thank you all for your input. “Blue Streak” has offered to rebuild it. Not ready to go that route. Are they reputable? If there is any other possibilities that come to mind, please reply. The junk yard will be an option. Thanks again #WranfglerForum.

The TJ guys found a company called WranglerFix. They seem real happy with his work. His website states he works on YJ computers too.
I suggest you contact him/them and see what he can do for you.

Let us know how it goes.

Good Luck, L.M.

Just for the record: 80-95 are ECM. 96 up are PCM according to the NIAS/SAE standards, if I'm not mistaken.

They are all electronic control profiles and they all control the engine which is part of Powertrain
Some also control tranny or tc lockup but even the 97-2004 manual tranny ones just control engine so they are whatever Chrysler names them
