I recently bought a 1992 Jeep Wrangler. While during home (about 40 miles), the engine turned off and would not start back up. After a while it would start but not stay started. Now after having it towed home, sometimes it will start and stay started for a few minutes and then die and sometimes it will not even start. The previous owner thinks it is the ECM. But I am also being told it could be the Crankshaft position censor. By the way, the Crankshaft Position censor part has been discontinued, so they don’t make it any more. Does anyone have any thoughts?

You didnt mention which engine, however either CPS are made in the aftermarket and are $65 and down depending on quality. Ive had good luck with NTK which is a division of NGK. If you get the Mopar number you can likely find one on ebay or amazon as well. For the money its worth trying and cheaper than a rebuilt ecm.

Welcome to the Forum nbk5y91,

Find a post by Got it at last. In his signature he has a free link to several Factory Service Manuals. Click on that link and then click on the FSM that fits your Jeep.
In that manual there should be a diagnostic flowchart that will help you determine what's causing your condition.
It's always better and cheaper to do the diagnostics first than to try to guess what's causing a fault.

If you determine it's a faulty computer, there's an inexpensive fix if the capacitors are bad.
Let us know what you find and don't be shy about asking for help.

Good Luck, L.M.
