Try a search for firering coax on here, and you'll find where some have found that the coax is bad. I would check the install again, make sure everything is correct, if it is, then try another coax, and see if that helps. There are several reviews on amazon.com about the firering, where people have had problems and how they fixed it.
Electrically long issue
I have a cobra 75 kit from cooltec with a 4' firestik firefly antenna and firering cable.
When first trying to tune antenna (tune able tip) I was really long on the swr meter. After discussing with a friend we decided to try and re-ground the antenna. We found a suitable ground and tried again and it's still extremely high.
What say you on helping me figure this beast out.
