For starters, my exhaust manifold was cracked. Was able to see one small crack but what I didn't see was the massive crack hidden by the intake manifold.

Replaced the OEM exhaust manifold with a Drake Off Road header.

Discovered I still had a rattle of some form. Upon careful inspection, it seems to be coming from the Cat Convertor. (My S-10 did the same thing.) I will not be replacing the Head pipe (I think that is what it is called) and the Cat. I was looking at the MagnaFlow (Magnaflow 23227 - MAGNAFLOW Performance 49 State Direct Fit Catalytic Converter for 97-99 Jeep® Wrangler TJ with 4.0L Engine - Quadratec) Cat system. Has anyone used this Cat and is it really as easy to install as they claim?

After I install the Cat System I will move on to the muffler/cat back. I was thinking about using the MagnaFlow (MagnaFlow Exhaust Part 17125 - Off-Road Pro Series Cat-Back System). Again any thoughts on this product and how easy is the install?

I am nothing more than a shade tree mechanic with not specialty tools (welder, grinder, etc).

Sorry this thread took so long but I need some insight from my fellow Jeepers. Thank you.

I just put that magnaflow cat on and did replace the downpipe from the header. It was an easy install, but have fun with those o2 sensors....

It's easier just to replace the back one with the new cat.

So you reccomend replacing both since you have to take them out anyway?

I bought the maganaflow package on quadratec which came with he downpipe and the cat. I decided to replace the o2 sensors with it since I would have it down anyway. (A bit of preventative maintenance) When I got the old pipe and cat off, I couldn't get the o2 sensors to even budge. Even heating them up didn't do the trick. I actally ripped the bung off with the o2 sensor trying to get it out. If they're old, it's worth the extra 28$ for a new one

Hey great advice. Thanks. Where did you get the sensor? I was pricing them for way more. I also need a cat back. Im hoping to do them both at the same time, but its expensive. I really cant see putting on a new header pipe and cat and then put my old muffler and tailpipe back on.

I got mine on amazon. Just make sure you get a front and a rear one. (Not sure if they're different, they both have 4 connector pins, but it can't hurt to keep them consistent.) I believe I paid 28 a piece for the NTK sensors. DO NOT buy bosch sensors. The magnaflow kit from quadratec was great. Added a little oomf to the exhaust, however that may just be because my old one was all broken up. The downpipe, o2 sensors and cat are easliy done in your driveway and the muffler will just clamp on assuming you get one with a 2.25 in/out pipe.

Good luck! :thumb:

I got the same cat set up from q-tech. It works great and solved several issues with my 99 sport. I did have some issues with the installation to an aftermarket cat back exhaust system. Since you are replacing everything you shouldn't have the problems I did.
