I recently purchased a fuel pump and sending unit for my 91 Wrangler. When I went to put it in I had about a 1/2" gap between the flange and the top of the tank. The store I bought the pump from says I have an export gas tank which is shallower than a regular tank. Any one else ever run into this problem? Any one know where I can find a sending unit and pump for this export tank?

I just replaced those on my 93 YJ. When the new sending unit was placed in the plastic tank it had a pretty good gap in it when I held it up straight over the tank opening. What I found was that if I leaned the new sending unit to the front or back I was able to get one or two of the screws started, then I just worked my way around with the other ones. Basically the top of the tank had give in it and sort of "caved" in a little when the sending unit was removed. Putting in one screw at a time and working my way around the opening "uncaved" it and it went in fine when all was said and done.

I think the store is at feces capacity.
