I've had extended warranties on vehicles in the past. Most of them have paid for themselves one way or another. I didn't buy one on the jeep, but that's okay because almost everything it would cover has been upgraded by me.
No, we did not buy the Jeep at a Chrysler store. I found it on a GM-Pontiac dealership, and they hooked us up with the extended warranty. The bigger the dealership, the more they seem to work with you on getting rid of their vehicles. It is even a better buyers market right now. Too much new, and used, iron sitting at the dealerships.
Bought a 98 TJ used from an individual who had gotten the extended drivetrain warrenty by Guardian from the used car dealer they bought it from. Only had to pay $100 to transfer the warranty which worked perfect b/c I had to replace the A/C compressor clutch and other parts and only had to pay deductible of $100 to fix the A/C
