Hey everyone. I just picked up a 2003 TJ and have got mod-fever already. I've pretty much decided on a 2.5" OME suspension lift + 1.25" BL w/1" MML to clear me some 33s.

I have basic tools and am only moderately mechanically inclined (I can follow directions but if I run into trouble...). With that, I'm debating if I should tackle this myself or have a shop do it. Adam's D/S wants $1,120 for labor only...hence debating on self-install. Does anyone know of another shop that knows what they're doing but is significantly cheaper? Any of you do this yourselves? If so, how'd it go?

I hope to get out there with some of you this fall...I really want to try Rocky Gap!

The MM lift is a little difficult if you dont have an extra pair of hands. I had to use my engine hoist and a floor jack under the main shaft pully. The driver side cross bolt hit the air conditioning compressor because it was installed from the front. I had to remove the entire motor mount off the frame and reinstall it.

The Daystar body lift had some issues as well. The two front metal mounting pads under the door on each side had holes that were too small for the pucks to fit in. I had to modify the holes for them to fit.

If your TJ has a ton of rust that might make things harder. Do you have access to air tools?

I did read somewhere about the a/c compressor being in the way on the driver's side. Some mentioned being able to loosen those three bolts, enough to be able to slide that through bolt out. Others, like you, just removed it as well. Either way, I'm not too too worried about that part, more or less being able to align everything back up solo (maybe wife can push/pull jack some).

I think I'll tackle in stages and just take my time. I should be able to do the BL & MML in a weekend, taking breathers...to save a grand...seems worth some grit and tears, lol.

No access to air tools...i think I'll give all bolts a good soaking for a couple days prior. Shock bolts are the ones to be wary of, yeah?

Dont forget to adjust your tcase linkage after your body lift. The shock bolts were ok, but the lower control arm bolts were really tight as were the skid plate bolts.

Rocky Gap looks fun. Too bad im not down south. Sort of looks like Lousetown road just down the street from me. enjoy your mods!

Welcome :) You're going to love getting out (and not too far to the days of straight 100s has come and gone). On that driver's side MM bolt... it is a 7/16" and 35 mm in length, Grade 8 (hardened). Get familiar with the Ace Hardware bolt aisle--three of them and the best I have found in Vegas for bolts. Either a hacksaw or reciprocating (~Sawsall) saw will make very quick work of it and you can put the new one in "correctly"/the opposite direction. I suggest the reciprocating saw--SO darn quick and they can be picked up for cheap at Harbor Freight Tools.

One of the first mods I suggest is oil pan armor. That will let you get in some of the rocks right away. You can research on here, but there are MANY different oil pan skids to cover that area. Terraflex, etc.

As far as another recommended Jeep shop--Vegas 4x4 at the Speedway. You'll find them online, Facebook, Google, or Yelp. Larry and Brett know their stuff.
