I am going to buy my first soft top for my 2006 SE in about a month. With no "hardware" and only a hard top currently I'm expecting to pay roughly $700. What are some suggestions as far as where to buy it from, where NOT to buy from, what to be careful of, common mistakes... Thanks in advance to any and all advice, you guys rock!

Just don't cheap out & buy a good one. Treat the soft windows like fine china. Shop around. I got my bestop trektop for just north of 500.

Stay away from the rampage frame-less it looks good but the quality sucks had mine about 10 month and have to have it fixed 3 times from the stitching coming undone. I have heard good things about the frame-less bestop brand top.

I bought a barely used stock Mopar softtop for $300 on Craigslist. Many will say the factory top was the best. Even after tracking down the body hardware, that's a whole lot less than $700.

When I bought my TJ in February I watched a few Best Top You Tube videos to familiarize myself with the top that came with my jeep. In one of the videos the Best Top rep states that Best Top has been making the factory Jeep soft tops for several years.

The windows get very brittle when it's below freezing. Don't attempt to roll up them or have stuff in the back of your jeep that could bump into them.

If u have half doors, put the pointy end in the vinyl first when your installing your new windows. Or you'll get 99% done with it and realize you gotta start over. A heat gun helped us but we did mine when it was about 50 degrees outside.

X2, I ripped my passenger side slightly trying to put it over the frame the wrong way.

The biggest no-no is to NEVER EVER wipe the plastic windows with paper towels. They are made from pulverized wood particles which will leave countless scratches each time that eventually build up to form a haze that eventually yellows. Only use soft slightly moistened cotton cloths like old towels, t-shirts, diapers, etc. and never wipe dry dirt off either. The window vinyl is very soft and easily scratched.

Soft top from Smitty Bilt fits perfectly. Everyone else is on track with warm weather. Soft top without hardware cost was around 200.00

I recommend Bestop brand. They are the manufacturer of the jeep OEM stock tops. Everything else is just imitation. I had the hardware but needed the top itself. Bought the Bestop Replace-a-top and it fits like a glove (as it should being OEM) I wouldn't buy any other brand.
