x-2Look on the inside of the tub/body behind where the diamond plate is, more then likely that was installed to hide more rust. Especially since those are very common areas for rust on Jeeps. Also look over your frame and make sure there are no rusted thru areas.

Ill keep that link bookmarked and the original owner said it needed to be changed because after going over 40mph the steering felt wobly! I dont know if its the steering box as he said, but after going through theThe steering box is simple to change. But before you do. Make sure the frame is not rusted by where the box mounts.
Before replacing you might want to adjust the backlash.

Loosen the jamb nut and turn the allen bolt a 1/4 turn. Tighten the jamb nut making sure the allen bolt does not move.
