hey all. I have a 97 TJ (4cyl) with original stock springs and 2" spacers and longer shocks (bb lift) with stock bumpers. I just got a 9500 lb winch on a receiver plate. I am going to keep it on the receiver and run a wire to the back so i can mount it on the rear (usually pull my self back out to try again not over it lol) but would like to put it up front full time. I dont want to sag out my front end, kill my ride or block airflow to my bumper. Any suggestions or feedback. Should i go through the effort to mount it up front, put a front hitch on so i can move back and forth or just keep in inside and use on the rear when going wheeling. This is my daily driver. Whats everone think?

Mount it up front.. Your front end will sag about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch..If you kept the factory spring isolators put them back in on top of your aftermarket spring spacers to get your front end back up.. If you didn't keep them, you can get a pair at MOPAR, or possibly eBay or CL... I think dragging a loose winch around is a major pita.. Stuck in mud or on rocks and you have to get out, mount your winch, etc etc? It's always best to pull yourself forward,, just my opinion

BTW,, airflow is not a problem

cool. Was thinking of mounting a hitch up front and putting the winch on when wheeling and leaving it at home when not. best of both worlds?

Just my $0.02 worth, but to my way of thinking a front hitch is just going to reduce your approach angle...plus a winch is a heavy SOB that i personally wouldn't want to carry 10ft further than necessary, much less be removing and installing every time i wanted to go wheeling. A friend of mine has a front hitch mount for his pickup, and between the winch and the cradle it's really a chore to get it into the hitch and get the pin lined up (plus your hitch / winch is only as strong as the pin)...to make a long story short, I'd say just mount it on a winch plate and call it a day, cheaper and easier than a hitch!
