has anyone ever thought about turning the front (maybe the rear) seat/seats into a storage area? something like taking off the seat part and putting it on a hinge on it and building a box with a lock under it with padding on top? I've been pondering this lately and really considering finding a used seat to mess with. it would be a great place to store stuff and somewhere no one would think to really look.

something like this... and yes I know the seat is turned backward but its the best I could do with paintshop. I was thinking about something like a strap that you can pull the seat up with like what is on the 97-02 wrangler seats, and placing the seat part on a hinge and flipping it towards the dash.

you can hide ur stash in the soundbar :flipoff:

now back to the question.. in the front i doubt you will do anything since the seats gotta fold forward unless you replace them or make new brackets. In the rear i've seen people do stuff like that. You can make something that slides out.. a tool box that slides out like an underwear drawer :)

don't have a sound bar that is just a pic I pulled off the net. and I am a officer so it would be a little hard for me to justify using the storage in that way but thanks for all the suggestions...:flipoff:

I was thinkin about puttin a hinge on the frame somehow and if it came to it creating a new frame and using the same cover. I need to look under the seat and explore it a little. I've heard of people doing the drawer thing but I want more room and something that might possibley lock, maybe a locking gun storage or something... so when I'm out driving with out my top and doors I can store my weapon in a semi secure area.

Could also mod your console so it has a hidden compartment that slides out the bottom/back of it. Could even put a simple lock on it and hide the lock with a cover. Might take some work but you could possibly convert the lower half of the console.

Example, Pardon the crude drawing.

Of course, your not going to get much space, but it could be small enough to store a hand gun, or other smaller things. Just an idea, i'll look into it more later.

two problems with the two senerios above.
1. I do not have a console, but good idea.
2. I have my amp under the back seat. so a under the seat drawer is out of the question.

Your idea sounds like the rear seats of the WJ Grand Cherokee. They had the jack tools and amp under the seats on the WJ. Too bad the rear seat is a bench and not a captain's/bucket seat.

I know tell me about it (not really but you know...) I'm seriously thinking about getting another seat and rigging it to work with a hard plastic box with a lock on it. it is too bad that the rear isnt a bucket seat though, it would make it alot easier to experiment on, however I really like having the back bench seat.

I've got one of these in my house already, except its the double. I really want more storage than this though.

You don't have a console?

Consider this... I think Amerijeep mounted two metal ammo boxes (from army surplus) with bolts through the floor and the top one bolted to the top of the bottom one. You could lock both of them. The top one brings the height of the ammo console up to the level where you can rest your arm on it. Just put padding on the top.

If he were around, I'm sure he would have pix. But something like that might work for you.
