I have a 2012 JKU, to which I would like to add a Rampage recovery bumper. Now, I know that bumper weighs in approximately 100lbs. The OEM bumper is probably around 25lbs or so. So, there is a weight difference of 75 extra pounds. To check "sag" crudely, I had my wife (130lbs) sit on the front bumper (OEM) and measured the sag, which was approximately 1.5 inches. So, with the Rampage bumper, I am expecting a 1" front end sag.

Now, I would like to be able to bring the front back up to stock height, nothing more, nothing less. I looked at the Teraflex leveling kit, and don't see how it makes any sense at all. First of all, on a stock JKU, MAYBE it will get rid of the rake, and that's it. However, on a modified JKU (with added sag) it will NOT cure the extra sag you get from adding a bumper.

So, what is my best bet of bringing the rig back to OEM specs, without compromising the ride quality, and extra wear on front suspension...the way I see it....

1) Get a 1" spacer for the FRONT ONLY. However, I do not know if this is something that is ok to do.

2)Get stiffer FRONT ONLY springs, that can withstand the extra 75lbs, removing the sag....however, from my years modifying race-cars, this seems like a really bad idea, as stiffer front springs vs soft backsprings will cause understeer.

Any other suggestions? I'm kind of lost here, as this is my first time modifying a 4x4 truck.

There are a few threads about the differences in all of the different OE springs that jeep uses on wranglers. About how the last 2 numbers on the springs go from 14-19 on the front and 55-60 on the rear and that the higher the number the taller/stiffer the spring is. You might look at what you have and if it is starting out as a lower number you might swap out for a higher number to see if maybe that would take out some of the sag without having to go with aftermarket stuff in the suspension.

I dont think there is any rhyme or reason to certain back springs with certain front springs from the factory (i.e. 14fronts go with 55rears and 19fronts with 60rears) because my jeep came with 16 front and 59 rear. And I plan on swapping for an 18 or 19 front to take some of the rake out of the stance.

Although how much difference you actually get between the different springs seems to be widely debated.

But I am sure someone else can answer with a better suggestion.

Just put 1" spacers on the front. It's perfectly fine to do this. Thousands of jeepers have had the same problem you do, just wanting to return to stock height.

Figured as such. Thanks a ton for the help.
Make sure that you get it right though. My front end sagged about 3/4" with stock springs after installing my AEV bumper. You don't want to compensate too much and have the front higher than the rear, unless of course you like that look. :thumb:

Definitely don't want reverse rake. I figure OEM is about 1/2 inch lower in the front, plus 3/4 inch from the bumper, so a 1" spacer should be perfect.

Cv2065 is correct. Best option is to measure height to fender at all corners. I use the axle as centerline and measure from ground to fender. Install the new bumper, drive it for a week or two to let everything settle, and then measure again. Now you'll know exactly how much lift you need. Spacers come in a variety of sized from 3/4" on up.

Why all corners? if I only add the front bumper, only the front end sags, so why measure all 4?

Just so you'll know for future information. If you don't want to measure all four, don't. I added front and rear bumpers, winch and a tire carrier so I typed what I did.

Not to Hijack, but how much of an impact will that extra 75lbs make on driving?

I know you have the Pentagod engine, but I am trying to do Weight Saving mods to my JKU (2007) to make it a little easier on the road and my wallet.

Put a RR XHD on my 2 door wrangler, and a pair of teraflex 1 inch spacers. It took care of what little sag I had and also got rid of that stupid stock rake.

None. It's like having a medium sized kid in the car. A 75lb gain you are not going to notice.
