Well, the high gas prices have had an upside where I live in the poconos, housing market has gone from 3,000 to over 7,500 homes for sale in a year, alot of them repossesed from people who just walked away or went bankrupt. Cut down bigtime on people moving out here from NYC and LI for sure. The bus commute from here to NYC also trippled in the past year or so, almost $400 a month now.
Neighbor works at a bank and she says the amount of people that are going into major dept on gas charges is unreal.... Three years ago it was .99 a gallon up here, last year it broke $2, it's heading for over $3. I used to spend $40 a week commuting to allentown at .99, then it doubled and cost me $80, now if I was still commuting it would be $120. Would be even worse if I was still doing the 180mi a day commute to lucent in NJ. The oil companies need to be reigned in, but too many big money people have too much to gain by the record profits so it will go till it breaks and I don't think thats too far down the road either...
