My heater works great! I know this because it blows out of the defroster vents. But how do i get it to blow out of the main vents that blow right at you? is there a switch? or an internal problem that i need to repair?

Help!! Its COLD!!!

If you have a YJ, you have 2 choices for the heat selection. Defroster onto the windshield, or heat which directs the air flow onto the floor. Thats it.

If you have dash vents, they are for A/C.

This. That's the only choice. Very basic system.

So funny, i just got my heater working this weekend and iwas wondering the same thing , eventually figured out defrost and floow are only options. Check one of these out if you need some extra heat. I heard they work pretty well when combined with regular heater. Im going to be getting one soon.

YJs have heaters???

I thought that was a 2nd radiator to use when going over mtn passes. It sure doesnt keep ya warm, and I got a hardtop!

We used to run those style (not that particular unit) heaters in tool trucks overnight so we didnt have to run the LPG heaters all day. Work great, just make sure they cut off auto-magically if they fall over.

My heater cooks too! I replaced the heater core and scraped the stock blower motor with one specced for a 93 Bronco. The only mod necessary was to increase the size of the mounting hole in the firewall.

My YJ heater is real hot. If you're having a problem you're due for a heater core. They clog and then start to leak. First sign is heater doesn't work that well, second is coolant on the passenger side floor.

I truly wish I had these "problems" with too much heat. We're coming up on winter and I'm a little concerned I'll have to wear double-insulated boots when I go anywhere :)

My heater seems to work great!!

Is there a mod to get it to blow out of the ac dash vents? It would be nice. I might replace my blower motor with something bigger just to ensure I'm set for winter.

As far as an external heater, like the road pro, are there any downsides to using a plug in heater?

My 94 YJ blows lots of heat, but I don't really need it directed on my right ankle.
Looking for a good way to block off the stock vent hole, and vent it back toward the center of the jeep, maybe something adjustable for angle.
Anybody rig up something cool ?
I have an engineering background, so it should be simple, just haven't had the time to give it any good thought yet.

Anyone know the cost of a heater core for an 87 yj? And the top switch for the vents is broken in my jeep so I never knew there was more than the vents that blow up on the window  I can't turn my vents off but at least I can control heat to cold and high to low haha

My 87 has too much heat. All the fan is ever on is low. and most days i have the window down some.

You guys need to take out your heater core and replace it if you are having heat problems.

I replaced my core just because it was getting old...$34 at NAPA.

another option/problem...

.

It's possible that your thermostat is stuck open, allowing coolant to flow too fast through your system, & not allowing your engine to properly heat up... a clue would be your temp gauge...

Must be a cable that's not moving a door... I saw a thread about the hvac system in a yj... you might search for heat/vent stuff...

Good luck..!!..
