This might be easy if the Duratrac had a reenforced sidewall. After reading some reviews from the tire rack they say the MT/R are not near as good in the snow. The tread pattern looks very similar and both are rated for severe driving in snow and mud. So this week it is I just can't decide between the two. No rock crawling, some mud and sand and alot of hill climbing and deep snow and icy roads.
I know it's to much to ask for anyone that had both tires that live in the snow belt. But any advise would be great. Or do I just flip a coin?
If I go with the GY MT/R they will be 305/70/17 if the Duratrac 285/70/17 or 315/70/17
Anyone please??????????????????????????????????????????????

The siping on the Duratracs makes them better on packed snow and ice. That said, I had the MT/R on my '03 for 9 years and never had a problem on snowpacked roads in the mountains. I plan to replace the stock mud-terrain tires (no siping) on my '13 with Duratracs.

Dude, if you're not going crawling, what do you care about a reinforced sidewall for? I rarely see a snow bank tear up a tire...or sand for that matter. The Duratrac is lighter, will perform better in sand, snow and ice where you plan to use it and capably in mud...sounds like you already made your decision yourself.

Yeah if you get any snow don't bother with the MTR'S. they are heavier and have higher rolling resistance. This will make your jeep seem less powerful and drop your mileage. I bet the 35" duratracs would net you more power and better mileage than the 33" MTR'S

I would definitely recommend Duratracs then, they are an excellent snow tire!

I highly recommend them too. They've eaten up everything I've thrown at them. All they need to do to be perfect is make a 35/12.5x15 size.

I just wish more folk did a 255, 265 and/or 10.5 inch tire in 33" at least...a 12.5 inch wide tire is not bad, per se, but I'd much prefer the narrower width. Might end up with KM2 for just that reason...although the Duratrac is a tempting tire.
