Gunk inside Diff

I got my diff cover off finally, anyways, this is the first time that the diff fluid has been changed in my 1955 Cj5 :chair: , dam po, anyways there is a lot of gunk and some beads of water on the gears, is it okay to spray it with some of the engine/grease/oil cleaner stuff i have and clean it out a little bit. Or should i just put in the new gear oil, and in a week change it again? i would rather not have to struggle to get the cover off in another week though.

thanx

clean it up really good. Spray it with cleaner you mentioned, whipe out the gunk you can get to and let dry for a litle while then you should be good to go.
ok thanks

ill get back to it, now that i've finished lunch
The easiest way to get all the gunk out, is to use disc brake cleaner. It also evaporates very quickly. It also does a very good job of breaking down the gunk, from the metal parts.

X2 or electric contact cleaner, thats more expensive though.
well thats the dirtiest oil ive ever seen

it was BLACK, and there was black goey stuff all around the walls, and beads of water on the gears, i didnt find any metal chips though!

im really glad i was able to get the cover off,

now to do the rear one, i am not excited about doing it at all, on the rear 8 of the bolts are seized up, they're currently soaking though, hopefully they'll come out

anyways, thanks for the help
