You are exactly correct, but it's easier if you remove the grill altogether - after removing the plastic clips along the top, pull the top section away from the engine compartment then reach your free hand in between the grill and radiator and with a little light pressure the spring clips holding the bottom of the grill will pop free. The headlight trim ring and housing is held in by T-15 screws, so make sure you have the proper screwdriver to remove them. Magnetic tip makes it easier to make sure you don't drop one when removing or replacing the screws.
Shouldn't take more than a few minutes to pull the grill and remove the screws.
