I don't want to drop the $$ to get new headlights so I want to just upgrade the bulbs.

What is the best and brightest bulb to replace the stock bulbs?

I have the Philips bulbs in mine. They seem to make it a bit brighter.

Even if you had the money for a complete headlight makeover you should be careful about doing something that extreme while it is still under warranty. If your Jeep ever had an electrical problem with anything on the vehicle they could say it was caused by a power surge that was caused by aftermarket lighting and there goes your warranty. A replacement $1,800 UConnect nav system isn't cheap.

The Philips bulbs are the same wattage rating as the stock ones.

Most headlight upgrades involve using a separate harness, with its own fuse, to draw power directly from the battery and use the H13 connector as a trigger for the relay. Separating it from the car's circuitry. However, you can swap to whatever headlights you want on the same circuitry as long as the bulb or system is not HID and does not go over 55 watts. Obviously, somebody would have to be a fool to run 100 watt bulbs or anything beyond 55 on stock cables...

Nevertheless, you have a fuse box that protects many car components. They just can't "say" headlights did it, they have to prove it.

I have the Philips ones as well. Dont expect to be wowed though. The jeep housing is really awful. They are worth the 30 bucks, they give off a whiter light than the stockers so you will now be able to see 6 feet in front of you instead of 5.

The HID drop-ins are said to work well with the OE headlight- not blinding and better than OE. We went with IPF and although WAY better than OE, I might go the HID route next time.

Just a word of what I have seen, IPFs have probably the worst beam pattern of all of them with hids, even worse than OEM housings. Its not even a pattern, just a non-formed shape on the wall that looks like a blob monster. Practically, most lamps that do not have a clear lens will give you a weird pattern with weird reflections of light.

What I believe will be close to the stock smooth pattern with HIDs would be the KC hilites h4, clear lens with a similar cutoff as oem but a larger beam towards the bottom, thus more light. Ill probably pick up a set next week to see how they fare.

I said HIDs with OE housings are reputed to work well without blinding other drivers. I can't tell a big difference between the KC and IPF light patterns with regular bulbs from the pics I have seen?

Its just that you said you will go the hid route next time, and you have ipfs :b
If you look at the jkowners light shootout you will see the pattern of the ips with hids, its horrible.

I will try to take some pics of my "projection" beam pattern on a building and the road with this Kensun HID conversion kit.
I wanted more than "Super Bright" replacement bulbs. I had a local shop install these due to the ballasts and added grounding and relays and plugs and stuff as well as they will stand behind the work

If you want good lights, you'll need to pay for them; end of story. I upgraded my lights to LED's and honestly, with my Jeep being my daily driver, if I have to sell mods to cover some unexpected expense, these will be the last mods I take off.

Great headlights are simply the best on-street investment one can make on their Jeep.

HIDs next time......with next Jeep......with OE headlights.

HIDs in any of the aftermarket headlight housings I have seen will blind other drivers.

I would also take a look at TruckLite LED and maybe JW Speaker LED, pricey.
