I had posted having trouble with what I thought was the fuel pump but after droping the fuel tank and checking all the wires running to the tank I have ruled out that as being my problem. When I try to turn it over the fuel pump is working and the starter and engine is cranking but no start untill I hear a clicking noise from the power distribution box under the hood so I'm not sure if I have a bad relay or a bad pickup coil in my distributar cap. I get no spark to my plugs until I hear that cliking from the power box with all the fuses and relays, once I get the clicking it starts right up?? Any help would be appreciated, art

Ohio I have exact problem you have, I have changed out the Crank Shaft Postion Sensor thinking that was the problem, it was not. The clicking sound you hear is coming from the auto shut off relay in the distribution center. My question is what does the relay shut off? does it just off the fuel pump? or does it shut off the power to the ignition? I checked and I have power to the coil but nothing coming out of the coil,no spark. any help out there.

I recently had the same problem and finally found that some of the wires leading from the "primary wiring harness" of the distributor were bad. This is the group of 3 wires leading from the connector of the distributor to the back of the engine wall. It controls your timing, which effected my idle and eventually it would not start. You might see if you can move these wires around while attempting to start and see if this solves it. I tried to find a new harness, but couldn't so I just replaced the bad wires and haven't had any trouble since. I too thought it was the fuel pump and spent a lot of time working that end, but it turned out to be something simple.

I'm just going to send it off to the pro's and see what they can find out thursday, I hate to guess and just waist money and alot more time that I don't have working 40hrs and going to college full time. I think it could be one of many things like the wiring,computer,fuse block or pickup coil?? Maby the electrical auto man will be nice and helpful. I will let you all know what I find out.

problem solved

I had no check engine light when the key was turned on and was told that means the computer : aka ECM or PCM was bad and needed to be changed out. I went on ebay and found one there, plugged it in and Jeep started right up. All the issues I had before are gone. Thanks. . The site I got the part from was the "jeepgraveyard.com"
