I have a 1997 Wrangler with a 4.0 and a 5 speed, 186,000 miles, the engine was replaced in January. I was driving the Jeep when I had a miss-shift and the engine reved to around 3500 rpm. I lost oil pressure and the engine was missing very badly. I shut it off and towed it home. A P0320 code popped up, I replaced the crank position sensor with a Mopar unit. While in the engine bay I noticed the hold down tab on the distributor was broken. I replaced the distributor (aftermarket Orielly's). I am getting spark at the coil and all spark plugs. I have checked the compression and I am at 140-145 on all cylinders. I have 50 psi on the fuel rail (fuel pump replaced in January). I can hear the fuel pump relay turn on and off and the injectors are clicking. Does anyone have any ideas on what might cause this thing not to start. I am at my wicks end! Help! And yes I have read all of the solutions on all of the forums>

3500 rpm shown not damage the engine

You say you have fuel pressure and injector pulse (I prefer noid lights to just hearing click) you also say spark at plugs when cranking and ok compression

When you hear hoof beats think horses not zebras

Horse one- you replaced dist could be off a tooth or two thus sending spark to wrong cylinder

Horse two- you replaced dist could have wires to plugs in wrong dist cap holes sending spark to wrong cylinder

Horse three crappy fuel keeping it from starting

Zebra one - your acute problem may be related to timing chain jumped a couple teeth again sending spark to wrong cylinder and miss timing cam/valve opening

Zebra 2 could have broken timing chain
Would loose oil pressure, would be sending spark to only one cylinder as rotor in dist would not be rotating

I will see if I can find so noids to check the injectors. I checked the distributor timing. I am at TDC on the compression stroke on #1 cylinder. I checked my spark plug wires and they are correct. I went and added 5 gallons of premium grade fuel. I don't believe it is the fuel, because it was running good before the miss-shift.
If I jumped a tooth or two on the timing chain, shouldn't I get a backfire? I am getting oil pressure when the engine cranks over.

I am completely baffled and ready to tow it to the highest mountain and push it of the edge!

The one engine I had that timing chain jumped was a 289 v8 ford
It would cough and almost but not quite start
Puzzled over it a long while before I figured it out
But if have good fuel and good spark and good crank and compression all that leaves (of the top of my head) is timing (valve and or spark) or clogged exhaust
